Billy HenshallHawkins Talkin' Label Billy Henshall began writing songs aged fourteen whilst singing in rock group “The Krede”. He has been a writer performer continuously since then, fronting Manchester-based bands such as Klick Tock, Boston Tea Party, William Bonnie Four, Tortarta, Bumblebees, Socrates, Greyhound Express, Overlode II, Sox and No Funny Stuff. During his time with Socrates, a four-piece acoustic rock outfit. In 197# the group won ITV's “Opportunity Knocks”. after three successive weeks they were supplanted by Bobby Crush, a young Liberace and, as the late John Peel wrote at the time “.. Opportunity Knocks is back to abnormal!” The management company sat on his contract for nine long years, at one point selling it on to Stax Records who promptly went into liquidation. Under the name Buzz Hawkins he has produced dozens of singles and television themes. He is also responsible for the cult radio comedy series 'The Bradshaws'. As William Henshall he has composed, recorded and produced several musical scores for contemporary dance/ballet productions, including Dark Opus, Sarai, Friction, Brief Encounter.

This double CD offering wasn’t planned. It came about while I’was tidying up. I was farting about and generally going through the motions (Freudian slip?) in planning my first solo album of serious songs when , while re-visiting some of my old recordings, a wave of ‘waste not want not’ washed over me. Rather than leave them in the bottom of the wardrobe taking up valuable shoe space I’ve put them together in no particular order here for anyone who’ll listen. There are probably only less than half of my odd outpourings here but that’s because the rest were ruined after being left out in the rain during a particularly traumatic house move (but it was an accident, I hope). Please take them for what they are (were) i.e.~ part of one small man’s struggle to fit a life into a lifetime. I’ve taken the liberty of writing a few notes in chronological order (as far as I can remember) and the vain hope you may wish to know how this bloke’s tock ticks |
